We built PicaGrid because we needed it ourselves

PicaGrid started with a small local newspaper in Vilnius and a very real publishing problem: turning stories, images, pages, and templates into a finished publication PDF should not require a complex desktop publishing workflow.

From a real publication

Before PicaGrid, there was a real community newspaper

PicaGrid grew out of Halės kaimynai, a printed community newspaper in Vilnius. While publishing real issues, we kept running into the same bottleneck: turning stories, images, layouts, and contributor work into a finished publication PDF was harder than it should be.

A local newspaper came first

PicaGrid started around Halės kaimynai, a community newspaper project in Vilnius. The work was concrete: collect stories, prepare images, keep a recurring newspaper structure, and turn it into something people could actually print and read.

The layout problem was bigger than expected

InDesign was powerful, but too heavy for a small rotating team. Scribus and other open-source tools were painful for everyday publishing. Generic design tools were easier to open, but not built for recurring publication issues with pages, sections, reusable layouts, and final PDFs.

So we started building the tool we wished we had

PicaGrid was created to make the newspaper workflow feel lighter: stories, images, pages, templates, comments, and export living in one browser-based publication workspace.

What PicaGrid is becoming

PicaGrid is becoming a serious layout editor for recurring newspapers, newsletters, bulletins, student magazines, event programs, and community publications.

Made for small teams with real deadlines

The goal is not to replace every professional publishing tool. It is to help small teams with real deadlines produce finished publication PDFs without carrying the full weight of a complex desktop publishing workflow.
